Happy Earth Day from all of us here at Green State Energy! We know you are serious about your decision to "Go Green" as a homeowner. You are ready to take action to significantly reduce your home energy costs. It's our mission to be your partner in that process.

In support of that mission, and in recognition of Earth Day as something we celebrate every day, we've rounded up a super-short list of valuable tips that you can take action on right now. Not only will these things make your home more energy-efficient and reduce your energy costs; they will also help to reduce impact on the environment and keep our planet safe for your kids and all of us. We hope you'll share them with your friends and family as we all can make a difference!

Stop the Water Waste

Did you know the average home wastes more than 9,800 gallons of water a year due to leaks and inefficiency? Do a leak check on all your bathroom fixtures - toilets are especially sneaky! - and make sure all joints and pipes are leak free. Reduce the cost of your water bill - this is an energy cost also!

Lighting Tips

Increasing the wattage in bulbs and reducing the overall number of bulbs being used can significantly reduce the amount of energy without any reduction in the room's lighting. A 100-watt bulb produces more light than a 60-watt but uses almost 20% less energy to do it. You can also benefit by switching out to compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFL's). 1 CFL is equal to 8 incandescent bulbs and uses 75% less energy. This is one of the easiest things you can do to reduce your home's carbon footprint and decrease your energy costs.

Stop the Energy Drain

The majority of our home appliances these days will continue to use energy while they are plugged in, regardless of whether they are turned on or off. Things like game systems, televisions, computers, printers, cable TV boxes, and hairdryers can have a huge impact on energy usage and costs. Unplugging whenever you aren't using these appliances can significantly reduce your energy costs and decrease your home's impact on the environment. It's also an excellent safety measure.

Go Solar

One of the biggest and most permanent changes you can make in reducing your home's carbon footprint and reducing your energy costs is to "get off the grid".
